I want you to know that you’re beautiful,
that you were fearfully and wonderfully made,
and that your beauty has absolutely nothing to do with the way you look.
Your beauty is based on the way you honor God, others, and yourself.
The only way to be truly beautiful is to be kind, compassionate, and caring.
I promise I’ll do my best, as your mother, to push away the standards set by this broken world.
I’ll do my best to remind you:
-that health is more important than the number on the scale
-that wrinkles will tell the world stories of love and laughter
-that everyone’s hair turns gray or falls out, eventually
-that we are all flawed physically, but our hearts don’t need to be
-that the only possible way to be ugly is if there’s hate in your heart
-that being picture-perfect physically won’t save your soul
-that you are treasured on earth and in heaven, because you’re a daughter of the king.
In teaching this to you, I’m learning the same lessons myself. We’ll walk this road together.
Love, Mommy
