Pouring rain. I looked out the back door to find a visual representation of what I was feeling inside. The air was thick and heavy, like the way my heart felt. There was a gloom–a haze– that mirrored what I felt in my mind.
We found ourselves in the thick of a storm, both literally and metaphorically. Things were dark and cloudy all around.
I took this photo and immediately saw things in a new light. Everything was soaked from the rain.
Washed clean.
There are countless mentions in the Bible regarding the way that water washes, purifies, sanctifies.
Everything new.
The storms of this life don’t leave us unscathed. We cannot stay dry in a downpour, but what if getting wet is the point?
What if we need the rain to wash us clean? To teach us a lesson? To refine us and point us to the One who controls the storm?
We need the storm to remind us how desperately we need the Lord–to see all the ways he uses our storms to refine us, for His Glory.
Tonight I’m thankful for the storm. I’m thankful that it’s only temporary, and that through all of the struggle God is washing us clean and sanctifying our hearts and minds.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10 KJV
